From Prototype to Patients: 6 Startups With Human Study Results
DealBio tracks early-stage health and longevity startups across Europe and North America. These 6 have human-study evidence connected to the technology, product or biological question they are advancing.
- Human Study Results
- Clinical Evidence
- Diagnostics
- Medtech
"Human data" can mean very different things at an early stage. A retrospective clinical dataset is not the same as a randomized intervention study, and an early mechanistic signal is not the same as a pivotal efficacy trial. Treating them as interchangeable hides more than it reveals.
The useful investor question is what uncertainty the study actually reduces. Across this group, human evidence is being used to test product effects, prediction models, biological mechanisms and diagnostic signals at different points on the route from prototype to routine use.

Why AND Biotech stands out
AND Biotech already sells four NooQ Nutrition products, but the evidence signal is the study behind Muscle Charge. In a randomized, double-blind crossover study in professional SC Bern ice-hockey players, creatine kinase was significantly lower 36 hours after the product compared with placebo.
What AND Biotech is building
NooQ Nutrition combines dietary nucleotides with established nutrients across products for vitality, muscle recovery, immune support and gut health.
The formulations use dietary nucleotides, the building blocks of DNA and RNA. Cell Vitality provides 340 mg per daily serving, Immune Shield 300 mg and Muscle Charge 1.3 g, with Muscle Charge combining nucleotides with 3 g creatine, 10 g D-ribose and magnesium per daily sachet.
Using CT scans and clinical data to estimate outcomes after brain haemorrhage

Why CT Provision stands out
CT Provision's HOP model has been tested retrospectively on data from 127 patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage. A preprint reports an AUC of 0.731 for vasospasm or delayed cerebral ischaemia and 0.857 for death.
HOP runs on QMENTA, a cloud platform for medical imaging research, which handles data storage and processing without new hospital IT deployment.
What CT Provision is building
HOP combines admission brain CT images with clinical variables to estimate risks of vasospasm, delayed cerebral ischaemia and death after subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Nuuron
Developing light-based brain stimulation to treat memory loss in Alzheimer's disease
- Country
Germany- Founded
- 2023
- Sector
- Medtech
- Funding stage
- Seed or earlier
Why Nuuron stands out
Nuuron is already presenting early readouts from an ongoing patient trial of its home-based visual neurostimulation approach. An eight-patient mechanistic study also found that stimulation increased memory-related brain signals.
What Nuuron is building
The Memory Pacemaker uses precisely timed visual stimulation delivered through smart glasses to engage brain activity associated with memory formation and recall.
Nuuron's route from prototype to patients therefore runs through two evidence layers: first showing that the stimulation reaches the intended brain process, then showing that repeated home use changes outcomes that matter to people with cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease.
Developing a urine test to assess kidney function and predict disease progression
- Country
Denmark- Founded
- 2026
- Sector
- Diagnostics
- Funding stage
- Seed or earlier
Why Equilibrium Diagnostics stands out
Equilibrium Diagnostics is built around human kidney data rather than an animal proxy. The uAPI concept has been evaluated across chronic-kidney-disease cohorts, with peer-reviewed and 2026 preprint evidence supporting urine ammonium and pH as measures of tubular function and progression risk.
That makes the evidence directly relevant to the diagnostic question: whether a simple urine measurement can add clinically useful information about a part of kidney function that current routine tests capture poorly.
What Equilibrium Diagnostics is building
Equilibrium Diagnostics is developing the AP Reader and urine Ammonium–pH Index (uAPI). The AP Reader measures urinary ammonium and pH in a single sample, and the index combines them to assess tubular kidney function and help stratify risk in chronic kidney disease.
Building Noxxea, a digital medicine for chronic insomnia
- Country
France- Founded
- 2023
- Sector
- Digital health
- Funding stage
- Seed or earlier
Why Di & Care stands out
Noxxea has already been prescribed to more than 1,000 patients. In the REST-NOXXEA study, insomnia severity fell by 7.32 points and 79.3% of participants finished below the moderate-to-severe range.
That places the evidence close to the actual product and use case: a prescribed digital treatment being evaluated in people with insomnia rather than a general wellness intervention.
What Di & Care is building
Noxxea delivers a four-week digital cognitive behavioral therapy programme for chronic insomnia through a smartphone, within a physician-prescribed pathway.
Building rapid point-of-need molecular diagnostics for early Lyme disease detection
- Country
France- Founded
- 2022
- Sector
- Diagnostics
- Funding stage
- Seed or earlier
Why En Carta Diagnostics stands out
En Carta Diagnostics has human-sample evidence supporting an earlier Zika application of its platform, with 98.5% reported diagnostic accuracy across 268 serum samples. Its Lyme programme is recruiting patients in Boston and has received FDA Breakthrough Device designation.
What En Carta Diagnostics is building
EC Pocket Lyme uses microneedles to sample skin interstitial fluid and a portable molecular assay to detect Borrelia near the point of need.
The molecular assay is being developed in a portable, single-use cassette that does not depend on centralized laboratory infrastructure. The format is intended for near-patient settings such as primary care and pharmacies.
Deal Sourcing for Investors
Looking for More Startups Like These?
DealBio helps investment teams discover, research, and monitor early-stage healthcare and life sciences startups aligned with their investment criteria.
Investment Perspective
These six startups show how human-study results can create value at different stages of health innovation. Clinical studies can demonstrate treatment outcomes, validate diagnostic signals, support biological mechanisms and provide evidence for technologies moving toward wider clinical use.
For investors, the importance of human evidence lies in how directly it supports the technology being developed. A mechanistic study can strengthen confidence in a novel therapeutic approach, while patient datasets can support diagnostic development and studies involving prescribed products can demonstrate real-world adoption and outcomes. Together, these different forms of evidence provide useful signals of scientific progress, product maturity and potential for clinical adoption.
Methodology
DealBio selected these startups from its database of early-stage health and longevity startups, focusing on businesses with the Human Study Results editorial tag. The selection intentionally spans intervention studies, retrospective validation, mechanistic studies and human diagnostic datasets so the evidence can be compared by what it establishes rather than by study count. DealBio builds its Startup Briefs using publicly available company materials, ecosystem sources, market references and professional profiles.
