Developing gene therapies to shorten disease-causing DNA repeats
Abnormally expanded DNA repeats cause genetic disorders including Huntington’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Myotonic dystrophy causes progressive muscle wasting and weakness, and prolonged contractions can make everyday actions such as releasing a door handle difficult.
NARYA Genome Editing is developing gene therapies for Huntington’s disease and Steinert disease. It uses DNA-cutting enzymes designed to shorten expanded repeats below disease-causing lengths, aiming to address the underlying genetic defect.
What stands out about NARYA Genome Editing
Secured ANR funding in 2026 for a project developing a gene therapy approach to Steinert disease.
Founded by molecular geneticist Guy-Franck Richard, who holds a PhD and has over 25 years of genome-editing experience.
Previously founded NARYA Genome Consulting, advising academic laboratories and companies on genome-editing technologies.
Collaborates with the Centre de Recherche en Myologie on THERAPY-DM1, an ANR-funded gene therapy research project for Steinert disease.
