Developing radiation-free, compression-free 3D microwave imaging for dense breasts
Dense breast tissue can hide tumours on mammograms because both appear white, making cancers easier to miss. Women with dense breasts may also be called back for follow-up tests more often. Nearly half of women aged 40 and older who have mammograms have dense breasts.
MIMA Technologies is developing a microwave scanner for 3D breast imaging without compression or ionising radiation. It aims to help assess dense breasts by highlighting suspicious regions for radiologists to investigate. Its software-driven device integrates radar-based automated reporting and malignancy scoring to optimize radiological workflows, shorten interpretation time, and reduce false-positive rates. MIMA’s mission: closing the gap in early cancer diagnosis in dense breasts.
