Training caregivers to respond safely to epilepsy emergencies in children

EpilepsyPediatric HealthEmergency Care

Epileptic seizures can occur while children are at school or in childcare, where staff may lack the knowledge to respond safely. Uncertainty about first aid and rescue medication can expose children to avoidable harm, unnecessary emergency calls and exclusion from ordinary activities.

Little Life Support provides emergency training for people who care for children. Participants use short online lessons, exercises and a knowledge test, with an optional on-site workshop for practical seizure-response training.

Product

The epilepsy course combines self-paced theory with optional practice in the learner’s own institution. Caregivers study how to recognise seizures, when rescue medication is needed and how it is given, then complete a test before receiving a course certificate.

Ten sequential learning units

Each participant receives a personal login for ten short-video units that unlock in sequence. Comprehension tasks and an optional workbook reinforce the material, while repeat video access supports self-paced study.

A tested route to course completion

After working through all videos, learners take a knowledge test. A score of at least 70% earns a course-completion certificate, giving the training a defined assessment step rather than attendance alone.

Practice in the familiar care setting

An optional on-site workshop refreshes the online material and adds practical exercises for responding to a seizure. The session usually takes around two hours and provides a second certificate for successful participants.

Market Overview

Schools and childcare settings must manage seizures as well as the learning and social consequences of epilepsy. German teacher research identifies unsafe first-aid beliefs and reluctance to include affected pupils in some activities. This creates a specific training need among non-clinical staff responsible for children.

Digital training can reach distributed caregiver teams, while practical instruction addresses confidence in emergency situations. Free epilepsy resources already exist internationally, so paid providers must offer useful assessment, local support and delivery that institutions value beyond freely available information.
