Developing inhaled therapy to disperse bacterial biofilms in lung infections
Bacteria can form protective communities called biofilms that shield them from antibiotics and immune defenses. In chronic lung diseases such as COPD and bronchiectasis, persistent infections can cause recurrent flare-ups, hospitalizations and progressive loss of lung function.
Hermione Therapeutics is developing inhaled ANP, a natural human peptide, to disperse bacterial biofilms and support antibiotic treatment. Its preclinical programme targets Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in COPD and bronchiectasis.
What stands out about Hermione Therapeutics
Demonstrated reduced bacterial burden with ANP plus tobramycin versus antibiotic treatment alone in preclinical in vivo studies.
