Harmonix is developing gas microbubbles that encapsulate genetic medicines and deliver them to the central nervous system. Focused ultrasound activates the bubbles at a selected brain region, opening the blood-brain barrier briefly so the payload can enter without direct brain injection.

After injection, focused ultrasound makes the microbubbles oscillate at a selected location. This opens the blood-brain barrier transiently and enables repeated, non-invasive delivery.
