Developing AI software to help clinicians assess and triage skin lesions
Long waits for dermatology assessment can delay diagnosis and treatment of suspicious skin lesions. Clinicians need to distinguish a wide range of skin conditions, while uneven skin-tone representation in AI training data can make assessment less reliable for patients with darker skin.
DermaSetuAI is developing AI software to help NHS clinicians triage skin lesions from dermoscopic images. Its prototype combines image analysis with clinical parameters to provide ranked diagnoses and plain-language explanations for clinician review.
