Providing hearing tests that measure brain responses to natural speech
Standard speech-hearing tests often ask patients to repeat words or respond to sounds. Young children and people with communication difficulties may struggle with these tasks, making it harder for clinicians to assess speech processing and evaluate the benefit of hearing devices.
Brainphonics provides an objective hearing test that helps audiologists understand how patients process natural speech. It supports assessment of hearing-aid and cochlear-implant benefit without requiring patients to give spoken or behavioral responses.
What stands out about Brainphonics
CORGEE is CE certified as a medical device for objective hearing assessment using natural speech and EEG responses.
CORGEE was evaluated in 100 children using hearing aids or cochlear implants with University Hospital Leuven and three rehabilitation centres.
Brainphonics secured over €70,000 in CrossCare innovation support and Digital Europe support for its LABRADOR-HPC EEG project.
Brainphonics spun out of KU Leuven’s ExpORL research on neural speech tracking to commercialize objective hearing assessment.
The team won KU Leuven’s biomedical Da Vinci Award in 2024 and the HWL Visitors’ Choice Award at Healthcare Week Luxembourg in 2026.
Brainphonics is supported by the imec.istart technology startup accelerator.
Co-founder Tilde Van Hirtum is a trained audiologist with hearing-assessment and hearing-aid fitting experience.
