Making patient-specific, mouldable bolus material for radiotherapy
Radiotherapy teams use tissue-equivalent material on the skin to adjust the radiation dose near the surface. Conventional bolus sheets can lift away from complex body contours, creating air gaps that alter surface dose and complicate consistent positioning across treatment sessions.
BolusCare makes a two-component bolus that clinicians mould directly to a patient's anatomy for radiotherapy. The fitted material is captured in the planning CT and reused across treatment sessions, without a printer or additional software.
What stands out about BolusCare
BolusCare's radiotherapy bolus is CE-marked under the European Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745.
Oncology Systems Limited became BolusCare's official UK and Ireland distributor, announced in July 2026.
Founder Bastian Hollmann also founded Hollmann Medical, a German distributor of radiotherapy technologies.
Founder Bastian Hollmann is a former radiographer (MTRA) with clinical experience in radiotherapy.
A Magdeburg university-clinic white paper illustrates patient-specific BolusCare fitting and compares VMAT dose distributions with a prefabricated bolus.
