Developing medicines that mimic natural lipids to resolve inflammation
Inflammation is part of the body's natural response to injury, but it must resolve for recovery. When the clearance of dying cells fails, inflammation can persist and contribute to scarring, fibrosis and eventual organ failure.
Attenuate Therapeutics is developing medicines that mimic naturally occurring lipids involved in resolving inflammation. It aims to develop these compounds for clinical use in inflammatory diseases, including autoimmune conditions and fibrosis.
What stands out about Attenuate Therapeutics
In 2011, lipoxin A4 and a synthetic analogue reduced collagen deposition and cell death in a preventive rat kidney-fibrosis study.
UCD identifies Attenuate as a 2022 spinout arising from its synthetic-lipoxin research led by Patrick Guiry and Catherine Godson.
Co-founder Catherine Godson is UCD's Professor of Molecular Medicine and directs its Diabetes Complications Research Centre.
Co-founder Catherine Godson joined Harvard’s faculty after postdoctoral fellowships before returning to lead research at UCD.
Enterprise Ireland reports that Attenuate secured seed funding including VC and HPSU financing in late 2023.
Co-founder Patrick Guiry is UCD’s Professor of Organic Chemistry and directs its Centre for Synthesis and Chemical Biology.
