Building companion robots to support older adults facing loneliness
Loneliness and social isolation are risk factors for mental health conditions in later life. Bereavement, reduced income after retirement and declining functional ability can add to the challenges older adults face. Maintaining meaningful social connections is an important part of supporting their wellbeing.
Arkeobots is developing Arkeo, a companion robot for older adults at home and in care residences. It is designed to offer conversation, medication reminders and family updates, supporting daily routines and connection rather than replacing medical care.
What stands out about Arkeobots
A functional Arkeo prototype was reported in October 2025, when its Kickstarter campaign sought funds for production.
Received the Social Entrepreneurship recognition at AIJEC's XXXIII Premi Jove Empresari in September 2026.
