Developing an injectable peptide to limit heart damage during heart-attack treatment
A heart attack requires rapid reopening of the blocked artery to restore blood flow. Yet restoring circulation can itself injure heart muscle and cause further cell death. Even after emergency treatment, patients remain at risk of heart failure and death.
ApoRepair is developing APO-29, an injectable peptide intended to protect heart muscle during a heart attack. It is designed for use when the blocked artery is reopened, as an addition to standard emergency treatment rather than a replacement.
