Developing tests to measure HIV reservoirs in infected cells
HIV treatment suppresses viral replication but leaves reservoirs of persistently infected cells. Measuring these reservoirs is essential to evaluating potential cures, yet available assays assess different aspects of the virus and can produce divergent results.
Analecto is developing a service, followed by a kit, to detect foreign DNA integrated into human cells, starting with HIV. Its CADseq approach combines CRISPR/Cas DNA cleavage with sequencing for research and drug development, with diagnostics intended to follow.
What stands out about Analecto
Analecto has analysed initial patient materials to optimise CADseq, its method for detecting integrated foreign DNA in cells.
The CADseq research project secured SEK 3 million from Vinnova, coordinated by Karolinska Institutet; not company equity.
Selected for KI Innovations' life-science business incubator in October 2024, providing business support and expertise.
Co-founder and CEO Peter Svensson holds a Ph.D. and is identified as the scientific inventor behind the company's approach.
Co-founder Ulrika Sjödin holds an M.D. and contributes the clinical perspective to Analecto's founding team.
Analecto originated from research at Karolinska Institutet, according to KI Innovations' October 2024 incubator announcement.
