Developing eye-drop dispensers for dosing without tilting the head back
Eye drops treat conditions including glaucoma and dry eye, but getting a single drop into the eye can be difficult. Patients can miss the eye, spill medication or dispense too many drops; tilting the head back and raising an arm makes the task especially challenging for older people.
Akrivision Technologies is developing upright eye-drop dispensers that let patients keep their head straight. Its multidose bottle is designed to transfer a single, measured drop to the pocket inside the lower eyelid, without raising an arm above the head.
What stands out about Akrivision Technologies
A preliminary usability study tested the dispenser with 16 patients; 15 preferred it to existing multidose eyedroppers.
Granted patents FR3131834B1 and EP4463113B1 cover Akrivision's eye-drop delivery device.
